Why Breastfeed?


Breast milk is the best food our child as it has all the essential nutrients. Here’s what breast milk contains:
  • A more easily digestible form of iron as compared to formula milk.
  • A higher contain of lactose compared to formula milk.
  • More protein than casein compare formula milk because protein is more easily digested than casein.
  • Breast milk promote the growth of good bacteria and inhibits growth of harmful bacteria in our child’s intestine.
  • Breast milk rich in antibodies which help the body to fight off infections, allergies and other illnesses.

  • Breast milk provides the ideal nutrition for infants - has the perfect mix of vitamins, protein, and fat.
  • It's all provided in a form more easily digested than infant formula.
  • Breast milk contains antibodies that help your baby fight off viruses and bacteria.
  • Breastfeeding reduces your baby's risk of having asthma or allergies.
  • Babies who are breastfed exclusively for the first 6 months, have fewer ear infections, respiratory illnesses, and bouts of diarrhea

  • Breastfeeding burns extra calories, so it can help you lose weight faster.
  • It releases the hormone oxytocin, which helps your uterus return to its pre-pregnancy size and may reduce uterine bleeding after birth.
  • Breastfeeding lowers your risk of breast and ovarian cancer. It may also lower your risk of osteoporosis.

Breastfeeding Support Group in Malaysia


  • Ibu Breastfeeding Support Group  (www.ibufamily.org)
    • Meets every month. The schedule can be downloaded from the website calendar. 
  • Malaysian Breastfeeding Peer Counselors (http://malaysianbfpc.org)
    • A network of volunteer peer counselors trained by breastfeeding information specialist, SusuIbu, to provide encouragement, information and support to breastfeeding mothers all over the country. You can find the email addresses and contact information of volunteer counselors in your state or region. 
  • Susu Ibu (http://susuibu.com)
    • Provides breastfeeding information and support in Bahasa, with active online communities of breastfeeding mothers. 
  • World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) (www.waba.org.my)
    • A global community for breastfeeding information and action.
  • Government Hospitals
    • Encourage mother to breastfeed baby after birth, give information regarding breastfeeding.
